## Description

From the manufacturer It’s Smart To Be Proactive! The best way to keep your aquarium clean is to maintain good water quality. This will keep your fish strong and vibrant, as well as preventing disease. How Do I Maintain A Healthy Environment? It is important to test your aquarium water weekly to verify good quality in addition to a bi-weekly partial water change of no more than 25% to help reduce toxic buildup, remove debris the filter missed, and replenish the oxygen available to fish. How Do I Take Good Care Of My Aquarium? Feed & observe fish daily Test water quality weekly Change 25% water bi-weekly Restore your ecosystem monthly Feed Your Fish Daily Feed your fish twice daily only the amount of food they can eat in 2 to 3 minutes depending on the species. Some fish such as bottom feeders and algae eaters will need up to 30 minutes to 2 hours. Overfeeding & low quality nutrition cause unconsumed food and more excrement which cloud water and raise harmful ammonia levels, possibly leading to fish loss. Take time to observe fish and the water temperature to ensure they are active & healthy. Test Water Quality Weekly An aquarium is a closed environment and in order for fish to thrive, water must be similar to that which could be found in their natural environment. Poor water quality can cause fish stress, illness and even loss. The 5 common water quality parameters are Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, and pH - all of which may vary over time and all are invisible to the eye which is why it is important to test weekly with API MASTER TEST KITS or API 5-IN-1 TEST STRIPS. It is also a good time to add API STRESS ZYME to keep your aquarium & gravel clean. Change 25% Water Every 2 Weeks In a closed aquarium environment there are no natural rivers or streams to carry away debris and other waste materials. It is important to renew 25% of the aquarium water every two weeks. When you change the water, it is important to know that tap water contains chemicals that make it safe for us to drink but harmful for fish, therefore add a water conditioner such as API STRESS COAT. Restore Your Ecosystem Monthly It is important to change your filter media & clean gravel monthly, however in doing so it can disrupt the fragile ecosystem of your aquarium. Use API QUICK START to strengthen it with ‘beneficial’ nitrifying bacteria that will naturally consume toxic compounds and help prevent fish stress. Also recommended when starting a new aquarium or changing the water. Making A Better Underwater World At API, we understand the rewards and relaxation of fishkeeping because we have a passion for fish too. API offers a range of testing kits, water conditioners, and nutritionally superior food, because we’re dedicated to making a better underwater world.

Review: As easy as it gets... - This API Nitrite test kit is for testing fresh water or salt water for levels of nitrite. Used mainly for aquariums as nitrite, if present in water, can be harmful to fish. The test kit is very easy to use. You just fill up the test tube that is provided, to 5ml. There is a marking on the test tube so you know when it has reached 5ml. You then add 5 drops of the solution provided, put the lid on the tube, then shake it for 5 seconds. Wait for 5 minutes, then compare the colour of the water to the colours on the test card. It is that simple. Depending on the colour, the instructions can give you some advice on what to do, which is very helpful. They go into decent detail to explain some things, the headings are.... 1 - Why test for nitrite? 2 - Testing tips 3 - Directions (step by step guide on how to test water using the kit) 4 - What the test results mean 5 - Reducing aquarium nitrite levels 6 - Reducing pond nitrite levels These are written in English, then translated into French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German, Dutch and Swedish. The test kit includes 1 - Nitrite test solution (with childproof safety cap) 2 - Test tube with lid 3 - Instructions 4 - Nitrite colour card The test can be done up to 180 times with the solution provided. The colour card has six different colours. The ranges are 0 ppm, 0,25 ppm, 0.50 ppm, 1.0 ppm, 2.0 ppm and 5.0 ppm. You can see the colour card in the picture that I added above. It also has a step by step picture guide on how to test your water. I mainly purchased this for when I was cycling my fish tank. Once the ammonia started to go down, the nitrite level was rising. I had to keep an eye on this level so I knew when to do water changes so my fish didn't become too sick. My fish tank successfully cycled, but it is also useful to check water levels after cycling. I normally test for nitrite 2 days after the weekly water change when all levels are settled. I believe that test results can be distorted if you test too soon after a water change because of the reaction in the water when you add dechlorinator. My nitrite has stayed at 0ppm but it puts my mind at rest to know for sure. All in all, this test kit has been very helpful to me, especially during the stages when I was just beginning my fish hobby.
Review: Nitrite test kit - Used it today for the very first time, never used anything like this before and it was spot on. Got more fish after I done the testing. Brilliant and easy to use. I do like it. I still had to take a test of water to the marine shop for them to test other things in the tank water. But I am happy with this test so easy and simple to use. I like the fact it has a little test tube with it.
