We were planning to have a raclette on New Years Eve. We own a teflon top raclette, which is not so great anymore, but it does the job. On the 30th of December I idly wondered, what else there is available now, and I came across this VonShef Raclette Grill. I could not resist ordering it, because of the price, and hey, we would have other raclette parties in the New Year. The estimated date of arrival was between 5th and 7th of January. But it arrived in the morning of the 31st of December!!! It was just unbelievable.So we did use it in the evening.It is a much sturdier affair as our old one, mainly because of the stone. The stone is a beautiful grey speckled slab of granite, highly polished on the surface with a groove around the edge. As suggested in the instruction manual, I heated it to maximum before we used it, as it omits the "new" factory smell at first.I bought raclette cheese, which comes already cut to size for the little trays, French Comte and Halloumi, all of which went well in the trays. For the top we had pork filet, unsmoked Gammon and turkey steaks, all cut into thin slices. The Halloumi also went well on the top.The instruction manual suggests to preheat for five minutes on max, but I would probably preheat for longer to get the stone really hot. Compared to the teflon top grill it keeps the heat for much longer and more evenly.The washing up is a doddle. The non-stick trays wash easily in warm water with some washing up liquid and so do the wooden scrapers. The stone was simply immersed in the water (my sink is big enough fortunately) and only by using the nylon brush I got it perfectly clean. The old one was a nightmare compared to this one! Some staining does occur, but I simply call it Patina.It was a great buy and I can not recommend it highly enough. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Great raclette, cooks well and easy to clean! *by S***Z on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 April 2017* I spent ages trying to decide between a natural stone top or a griddle pan and eventually went for the stone as I thought it might last longer and I'm so pleased I did. I was worried the stone would take a long time to heat up but it didn't at all - I just turned it on a few minutes before we wanted to start cooking. No different to heating up a normal oven prior to using it.Once hot it is great to cook on. I haven't had any problems with meat sticking to it tho the fish did a little when we cooked that. It cooks fairly quickly and this model is great coming with the individual spatulas.I was extremely pleased to find how easy this was to clean - definitely easier than the griddle pan style I have used in the past.The power cable is fairly short but this seems to be the case on every raclette, no idea why they can't be a bit longer so you don't always have to get an extension lead out.Overall I'm really pleased with his raclette and think it is good value for money. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Really great quality and lot of fun. *by J***S on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 October 2017* Raclette's are so much fun and this one i great. Stone one are far better than the metal versions however I originally got one from a supermarket and it had a crack in it and they would not take it back. A few month later the stone snapped. Therefore I was worried about getting another through again, especially through the post.I shouldn't have worried this one i EXCELLENT. The variable heat is really good and the grill tray have plastic durable handles, but do watch out that you don't put the handle under the grill. One small niggle i the length of the power cable, it is short.
