The blades are detachable, but I don't imagine you'd want to do so unless you were changing them for new ones. You can rinse the grinding compartment and the lid under the tap very easily and it doesn't need any more than that. I don't find it retains any odours etc - used for grinding spiced and nuts without any hint of contamination. **Q: would this be good for milling flaxseed (linseed)?** A: good for linseed, almonds, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds. **Q: I would like to do breadcrumbs is this suitable?** A: Yes, I often use it for breadcrumbs. It will fine-crumb small quantities of bread or biscuits.
