I touch up every 3 days, I remove all the product after 10 days. I then start again. I know it seems time consuming, but it has done amazing things for my nails. My mum follows this regime too. Two coats should help, especially as water will soften the nail and this will help keep them strong. I would suggest applying two coats before every swim and not buffing the nails.
