I bought 2 sets. They're not soundproof of course, but they SIGNIFICANTLY reduce certain pitches of sounds. Combined with better blackout than my old curtains, it's made for much better sleep for me. I now have to set an alarm to get up on weekends, and find myself waking up from a deep sleep when it's time to get up. This is *such* a good thing, easily worth the premium pricing. My suburban location (and late 1900s-construction detached home) suffers from picking up highway and airplane noise, distant construction, neighbor's cars coming and going, the wind creaking the eaves, and worst of all are neighbor's noisy lawn services. Review: Outside noise reduced! - I have done my own test with the window open and using the curtains alone, i live a bit outside of the city while at night so no cars pass by so my test a a lot more accurate so i used my macbook connected to my JBL Go 4 and used my phone to test the sound and as you can see without the curtains the decibel average and max decreased up to 6 decibels which is a huge difference compared to my normal curtains, i think for its price worth it as the quality is very good, its nice soft, a bit heavy and really blacks out the sun so hopefully my room wont get as hot as it was last year but as of right now, i really love it and will get some for my living room! I live next to a road that is very busy because it connects to 2 different highways so it gets loud during the day, but i do not regret spending 80$ on them! They are not "soundproof" but they are exceptionally good. My recommendation is that you look at one of the "additional" images on the Amazon site. It is the little tiles below the main image and when I just looked at it was fifth from the left or third from the right. It is a table indicating the effectiveness of the curtains depending on the frequency of the sound. Generally, I find that table accurately reflects the performance. Low frequency sounds at high volume such as hot rod "no muffler" engine noise, or the base tones of an idiot playing loud music still tend to punch through. The curtains take the edge off that type of noise but do not eliminate it. In terms of general street noises, background noises, conversational voices, and that type of thing the curtains are excellent. The difference in my bedroom was dramatic and instant. I do have a problem with rude "hotrod" loving neighbors. Even though those noises do punch through, the improvement was well worth the cost of the curtains. As long as you look at the "entire advertisement", I do think the image of the table by frequencies is accurate. I do recommend the curtains unless absolute quiet is essential. then you may need to move or wall up windows. One thing you can do is hang these on an extra rod near the windows and then keep any other curtains to not change the "look" of the room. Every additional fabric layer helps. The felt layer of these is the most effective. Hope this helps. **Q: How well do they reduce road noise, such as vehicles driving nearby?** A: They help greatly with general road noise. There is a chart 2nd from the right under the main image that gives a pretty realistic appraisal of how effective the noise reduction is at various frequency ranges. Ordinary well operating vehicle engines and other typical road and people noise are cut back really well. You will not get silence, but you will be able to turn the volume back down on TV or music. Really loud unmuffled or backfiring engines like most louder than normal and lower frequency noises will punch through. The idiots who shake windows with low base thumping car stereos will punch through. The improvement was vastly worth while for me. Expect a huge improvement rather than silence and I think you will be pleased. But not soundproof. *by L***S on May 8, 2025* I purchased these because we were rearranging my bedroom. My bed was going to be next to a window that would have very noisy cars driving by behind our house with no mufflers. These do not block sound, but they make the sound more tolerable. They block light 100%. We hung these up on adhesive hooks at the very top of the wall. The two panels almost cover the entire wall. To put the sound blocking effect into perspective. The cars have gotten so loud over the past few years, they literally sounded like they were driving through our backyard at 4 am. Now they sound more distant. Even though they are not. It has improved my sleep a lot. So that speaks volumes. One wall currently reminds us of hotel curtains. Once the other outer wall is done, this room will be quieter. Not without exterior sound.
