## Description

PNSO Prehistoric Dinosaur Models

Review: Great figure, bad stand. - I love the figure, it looks great. But the stand barely sits properly and it takes a lot of finagling to finally get it to work. Still, a slight shake will cause the whole thing to topple over. It seems like either the stand is taller than it should be or the arm is bent preventing the figure from resting on it securely. Disappointing for sure.
Review: The definitive Therizinosaurus! - 2022 PNSO “Qingge” the Therizinosaurus Therizinosaurus has been a massively popular dinosaur amongst dinosaur enthusiasts for many years. However, it finally entered the mainstream spotlight thanks to this year’s Jurassic World Dominion. It’s a genus that has been sorely underrepresented in the collectible figure market. The few that do exist tend to be less than stellar, and many are far from accurate. Leave it to PNSO to bring us, not only a quality scientifically accurate model, but the definitive representation of the animal in a commercially available figure. The fact that they did it in the same year that Therizinosaurus became a superstar just makes it even better! As with all PNSO figures, Qingge includes a booklet with information about the animal, as well as a small poster with gorgeous artwork! This Therizinosaurus is simply breathtaking! The head is extremely bird-like. Rather than scales, PNSO have given the face a wrinkly skin texture. There is some beautiful wrinkled skin around the eyes, as well as on the lower jaw. Tiny nostrils are sculpted into the end of the snout. The mouth is given a keratinous beak, and the jaw is articulated. This is a very impressive articulated jaw, especially given its minute size. The articulation point is very well hidden, and it looks great in either position. The interior of the mouth is sculpted with incredible detail, even including the nasal passages on the upper palate. The back of the head is covered in dense feathering, and the throat features a wrinkly skin pouch. The long, slender neck is covered in beautifully sculpted feathers. The feathering has a shaggy appearance, and looks very realistic. The way the feathers flow down the graceful neck just feels incredibly natural. You can make out the faint outline of the esophagus through the dense feathering as well. The shaggy coat of feathers continues across the body. Again, the flow of the feathering looks naturalistic, and is beautifully sculpted. The underside of the body is bare of feathers. Rather than scales, the heavily wrinkled skin texture looks very much like the skin of a bird. The skin stretches and bunches realistically around the limbs and tail. There is even a cloaca sculpted for added anatomical accuracy. The arms are well proportioned, and I love the way the feathers hang on them. The insides of the arms are left bare, and have the same bird-like skin texture as the underbelly. There are skin flaps between the upper arm, and the forearm which gives it a look very similar to a plucked bird wing. The signature claws of the Therizinosaurus are magnificently presented here. They are appropriately long, and appear incredibly sharp. These certainly would have been formidable defensive weapons! The rear legs of Therizinosaurus look disproportionately short compared to the normal theropod body plan. This gives the animal a lumbering, potbellied look. PNSO has captured that look perfectly. The legs are well feathered down to the ankles. Here, the details transition to a traditional scaly appearance. The scalation is beautifully done, and is very much like the scales on the foot of a bird. One unusual aspect of the Therizinosaurus is the weight bearing fourth toe. In most theropods, this toe is always lifted off the ground as a dewclaw. It’s great to see that PNSO included this detail in their design. My figure has that particular claw bent backwards on the left foot. I’m not sure if this is intentional, or if it is only my figure, but I like it. It looks like an old injury that healed. The tail looks great, and has my favorite feathering on the whole figure. I love how shaggy it is. It reminds me quite a bit of the tail of a giant anteater. (Another animal with massive claws.) The pose is excellent. It’s fairly neutral, but still has some great implied movement. The right leg is positioned forward, while the left pushes off the ground. The right arm is held in a neutral position, and the left is lifted as if preparing to grasp a branch, or defend against a predator. The neck is lifted, and the head turns slightly to the right. The tail counters this motion by swinging slightly to the left. The figure balances absolutely perfectly, but does come with a plastic stand for aided stability. Thankfully, PNSO has gotten much better at matching their prototypes to their final products. This one looks pretty much exactly like the picture on the box! The coloration is beautiful and naturalistic. It looks totally organic, and never feels like paint. The eyes are applied perfectly, and despite their incredibly small size, features perfectly painted pupils. My favorite area has to be the claws. They really nailed the keratinous sheathing on those massive blades. This may just be my new favorite figure from PNSO. That’s saying a lot, because they have had some incredible releases over the years. If you are in the market for a scientifically accurate Therizinosaurus, you must own this figure!
