I use it with a Swann-Morton scalpel (very sharp) for cutting/scoring plasticard. If you ensure that the fold up flap is between your fingers pressing down on the ruler and the knife you are cutting with, the flap helps to prevent drawing blood in the event of a slip. A very good safety feature if you are using something very sharp like a scalpel.
