It totally speaks to the beginner, i.e. me, yet has lots of innovative ideas to keep you learning once you have mastered the basics. I'm going to start at the page that says 'I can't even draw stick men!!' because that's where I'm at, or later on a part about drawing when you can't compare sizes. I love the innovative style of the book, Lynne encourages us to draw in different colours, such as what happens when you change a black drawing pen for blue and the results are lovely! She also suggests things like not colouring in every part of a sketch. Now when I was at school you just didn't do that, no bits of white must show through on your finished painting, but Lynne shows us how to do this and its refreshingly lovely. She also crowds her drawings and draws bits on top of each other. That wasn't allowed at my school either but its lovely. In short, this book is a joy to look at and has loads to teach everyone, go and grab yourself a copy! Review: Excellent introduction - I have been considering starting to do more plein-air quick sketching and found this book to be a perfect launch pad to encourage me to get started and stop dithering about it. It provides details that encourage group activities where a few like minded sketchers can work together to minimise the self conscious feeling that you get when working alone within a group of people or in a crowded street. To date I have mainly relied on my camera used in a walk about situation snapping likely scenes for sketching at home in a more controlled manner but this book has inspired me to be more adventurous and get out there and get sketching from real life scenarios.
