Various people told that these cannot work, as you cant boost a signal to be greater than that which it is receiving at the given point of use. So that's nonsense! I used this on a wireless connection. Just follow the instructions. Plug in, switch on, press WPS button on router, press WPS button on unit, and they find each other. I DO THIS CLOSE TO THE ROUTER. Then you can unplug and take to the point where you want to use it. Assuming not too far away, (Don't take it up to Tescos - other supermarkets are available), signal will be found. It has a wireless key but you log on to it using the key for your router. I live in an old house and needed second PC up and running in the basement. Has to penetrate really thick wall, probably composed of daub, wattle, sheep droppings and mud..with possibly the remains of a dead Roman here and there. My PC could see the router, but very weak signal...Signal strength was "You Must be Joking"...or words to that effect. With this in place it leaps to "Excellent". Say no more. Warning. It did appear to die after couple of years so I sent for a new one. New one arrived after 24 hours, courtesy of Prime. Next day, out of curiosity, with new one working, I tried the old one again...and it was working, although when it went wrong it did reboot it and tried everything else - restored factory settings etc. So, if yours "dies", try reset but in any event, leave it in a dark room to have a lie down for 24 hours, and it may well come back to life. Now I have a spare. At this price, can't go wrong. Review: It works well, eventually - This review is for the 610 model. It didn’t want to connect the easy way via WPS even though it was trying to connect to a BT Home Hub. I connected my iPhone to its Wi-fi and logged in, used the wizard to connect to my router and all was well. I do think someone without knowledge of ip addresses may struggle if their router doesn’t connect via WPS. Once set up, it is very good. Downloads are almost as fast as next to the main router at the other end of the house. One small moan though. I’m sure an earlier one I used to have, a bit slower than this one, used the same SSID as the router. This doesn’t, meaning I will have to reinstall all the smart sockets and bulbs, the main reason for buying it..... ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Easy to set up and does what it is supposed to *by M***I on 2 December 2015* I use a BT hub plugged into the incoming phone line in my 'office' at the front of the house. I had been having problems with the connection dropping on my iPad when used at the back of the house or just outside on the patio of the rear garden. Although other people had recommended the Netgear booster I decided to opt for this on the basis of some of the reviews so although I don't know how they would have compared in practice, this has done the job perfecty well. It took just a few minutes to set up (Plug it in near the hub, press a few buttons to connect them, plug it in somewhere else and then put in the hub password for the extension wi-fi that will appear in the wi-fi menu) and I have plugged it into a socket at the back of the house and now have good all round coverage including being able to use my iPad while sittimg ouside in the garden.
