I was advised to get some to use to seal screw threaded components which are not under pressure - so draining water. I have used some to seal an outflow from a urinal. It sort of works, but not particularly well. Apparently, you need to line the thread on the male part with "string" before applying Boss White. I didn't but it still worked. But the liquid passing the joint is not under pressure. So, to answer your question, it is not a substitute for an olive or ptfe. **Q: Can this be used on gas joints** A: I believe so but please check with a Gas Plumber/Engineer.
