However, we read as much as we could and found our way to all sorts of off the beaten path museums, things to see, etc. Also, when we found things on our own, we were able to go back to the book to learn more about whatever we saw. Both are both loaded with sights worthy of a visit by the enterprising traveler. Also in the region, and easily reached, are other attractions such as the Valley of the Fallen, Spain's monument to its 1930's Civil War, and El Escorial, Spain's monument to its victory over France in the 1500's.
