- BRASS BRAZING RODS FOR SHEET AND TUBE: These Sifbronze No 1 brass brazing rods are a copper zinc alloy with small amounts of silicon and tin. They suit thin steel sheet, tube frames, car bodywork patches and brackets. Many buyers call them brass welding rods or brazing welding rods. Brazing heats the steel less than welding, so thin panels warp less and keep their shape.
- HOW TO BRAZE WITH THESE RODS: Clean the joint to bright metal. Heat the steel to a dull red glow with your torch. Touch the fluxed rod to the hot joint and let the bronze flow along it. Keep the flame moving so the joint heats evenly. Let the part cool in air, then wash off the flux with hot water.
- FILLS GAPS AND BUILDS FILLETS: Bronze welding fills gaps that thin silver solder cannot. Lay a fillet on a corner joint or build up a worn edge. The joint is gold in colour, so paint it if you want it to blend in. File and drill the bronze easily once it has cooled.
- WHAT METALS IT JOINS: Use these bronze welding rods on mild steel, galvanised steel, cast iron, copper and brass. They join copper to steel and steel to cast iron. They do not suit aluminium. Avoid thin, heat treated bike tubing, as the heat can weaken it, so use silver solder there.

**Q: Do I need flux with these rods?**
A: Yes. The rods are bare with no coating, so use a separate bronze brazing flux. Heat the rod tip, dip it in the flux and it picks up a coat. Flux cleans the metal and helps the bronze flow into the joint.

**Q: What torch do I need for brazing steel?**
A: Use an oxy acetylene torch with a slightly oxidising flame. Steel must glow dull red before the bronze will flow in. A propane torch rarely gets hot enough for steel.

**Q: What metals can I join with Sifbronze No 1 rods?**
A: They join mild steel, galvanised steel, cast iron, copper and brass. They also join two different metals, such as copper to steel. Don’t use them on aluminium or jewellery.

**Q: Should I choose 1.6mm or 2.4mm rods?**
A: Choose 1.6mm for thin sheet, tube, brackets and small fillets. Choose 2.4mm for cast iron, thicker steel and large fillets. Both sizes are 33.3cm long and come in packs of 10, 20 or 30.

**Q: Is there anything I should know about fumes?**
A: Brass fumes contain zinc, which is harmful. Work outdoors or use fume extraction, and wear eye protection and gloves. A slightly oxidising flame also helps cut zinc fumes.

Brazing rods as described. What can I say, they do the job.

good rods but high melt point so oxy or tig is required and be careful of using these with thin wall heat treated steel alloys as the flow point of these rods will deteriorate the heat treating of the steel , there are much lower temp rods available for such materials . rapid shipping and fresh ,well stored stock .
