Review: Faster to buy the entire shift lever assembly than to try to repair very fine broken wires - My 2001 Silverado with 175000 miles began to shift erratically on occasion. I also noticed that the TOW/HAUL switch on the tip of the shift lever no longer worked. It turns out that the wire sheathing connecting the tow/haul switch to the wiring harness abrades over time. This results in intermittent ground contact signaling random tow-haul mode to the transmission computer. The only thing not provided with this replacement kit is a couple of zip ties to secure the new wiring to the steering column. If you are in a hurry or just thrifty, you can just try to repair the old wires, but I don't have the necessary soldering tools for the very thin wires. For me, this was an easier repair. One note: the tow/haul labeling on the new shifter knob is different from the original on my truck, but this is strictly cosmetic.

My 2001 Silverado with 175000 miles began to shift erratically on occasion. I also noticed that the TOW/HAUL switch on the tip of the shift lever no longer worked.
