Then I apply a thin coating to some of my watercolors. It does not make them waterproof; however, if a drop of water accidentally gets on, it beads up and allows me to wipe it off before it destroys the painting. So, for me, it is working perfectly. It keeps knots and sap from coming through when painting ....not sure about critters, maybe bake in oven 1st ??? after you seal branch you can varnish, this puts harder coating and would give another layer of critter prevention **Q: Can I apply this before I paint? Trying to avoid wood splinters coming up** A: Yes, it is great to apply before you paint. I love it. **Q: is this what i use after i paint my ceramic with acrlic paint** A: You have to be sure your ceramic is fully dry and not sticky to the touch before applying to get the best results. Once your piece is dry then apply a thin coat and let dry and if you want to ensure best coverage or you are worried you might have missed a spot, you can apply a second coat and let thoroughly dry.
