You'll heavy duty scissors, and a utility razor knife to open it and it's extremely hard to not cut into the new pillow or yourself. The pillow is vacuum packed inside super thick tough plastic and then that is wrapped with heavy tape and crazy glue or something. After opening it didn't smell and it popped right up to size quickly and was in use on the chair. I recommend it. Seems rugged enough. Durable. When I first installed it on my recliner it kept falling down every time I got up. That’s the same as my pillow so what the heck. So I backed it as in the pic. It works just fine now.
