Having done that I got many UK Freeview channels tuned, and a quick trip to Tesco's car park (about 10 foot higher than my home) proved the supplied aerial accepted the same channels. DVD playback works well with UK store bought DVD's and home recorded DVD+RW. I would suggest however that straightaway you upgrade to the better aerial which works so much better than the cheap one they include.
