My dog handled them pretty well the first time I got them, but the second time....I had to go into her mouth and fish a piece out of her throat, not once, but twice. The ones that were left went into the garbage. There are better chewing things for your dog than rawhide. I'm sorry to be so blunt, but after that happening twice I read up on the rawhide, and they really aren't recommended. **Q: how much is 1lb? How many chewers?** A: A 2 gallon bag full of about 3x6 size pieces.I got 24 chewers in this bag. **Q: Are these thick rawhide chips or thin?** A: They're not really thick, but they aren't thin either. They are a good size, but you need to be careful with them because some dogs don't always chew them up completely and try to swallow large pieces. I had to fish a large piece out of my dog's throat twice. With a little modifying, they're perfect.I buy them only as a base for another type treat I make out of them, since the natural unflavored rawhide doesn't hold interest for long, the way other treats do.Being bigger than I want, I chop saw them to size. Then wrap them with thin slices of raw chicken, pork or beef, and dehydrate. Think jerky with a rawhide core.Yes, you can buy similar items, usually from China... Good Luck to your pets with that one.But, natural rawhide and human grade meat, works for me. Since my gang gets a chew with dehydrated meat, every day... I want to know just WHAT their getting. These chips and human grade meats allow me to do just that.If your gang gets bored with the plain rawhide, but you'd rather not mess with adding/drying meat, use anything that smears.. cheese, peanut butter, baby food, canned pet foods, etc. to make them a tasty chew.Helps is you let it air dry for awhile. They may lick off whatever you smeared on them ( the chips, not the dogs), but by the time they're done licking, they've gotten interested in the chip.Great size for a Rottie, GS, Dobie or any strong chewer. But, for a smaller dog, it might be more rawhide than you'd want them to have at one sitting. If you don't have a chop saw, a good garden shear should work. A regular scissor won't.Have fun.
