I wanted this product to act as a prefilter to my DIY filter for my 9'x3'x3' Discus tank. The length of this product was 6" longer than I need and I worried that it will unravel if I cut it. When I received it the first thing I notice was how soft it feels and that the end (edge) that I would need to cut was open (not specially breaded) and when I rubbed it with my fingers there was no unravelling. Then I worried if water will pass through it fast enough that there will have no backing up. I ran it under the tap and water passed through it seemingly unobstructed. I cut the product to size and spread it over the floss I use as a prefilter (which I wash regularly). It acts as a mechanical filter and stops particles from passing through while allowing the water to pass. Cleaning involves removing the product and spraying it from the underside. It is working fantastically well and cleaning is easy.
