They are 6" long. But the exceptionally wide field of view more than makes up for the weight and size (in my opinion at least). Finding a bird in the binoculars is very quick easy. They are excellent for birding, but when I go backpacking I choose other binoculars that are on the lighter size. Hope this helps. - Ross S. **Q: Do they come with case and lens covers?** A: Yes, ours came with a soft case and rubber lens covers. We had to get extended eye cups because of a focusing issue. The original eye cups were too close to the lenses. You can obtain these free from Zeiss. You could possibly ask for these when you order. We almost returned them but decided to try the extended eye cups first and waited on Zeiss to mail them to us. These are wonderful bird-viewing glasses and very glad we kept them. **Q: Does anyone know if the extended eyecups fully resolved the eye relief issue on the 8x42 ? Can anyone say through personal experience with the new cup** A: I don't know if I have an extended one, but would like one. It unscrewed and can fall off (the whole eye piece).
