I would go about a 1/4 to a half a turn then reverse to break off the chip and the forward again. Only had one thread to have a problem, there was a little metal chip caught in the threads that caused to the threads that were being cut to have a torn look and it was very hard to cut the threads. Removed the chip and everything worked great again. Use oil. Lots of it. My husband didn't think I could do it.
