It's 17 inches high so it could do either... a bit high for a foot rest or an average to low bench. But it works either way. It's a small seat, just enough for a brief sit at a vanity sink or make up table. I was expecting a lighter blonde wood. The wood is Teak colored. I ordered the beige linen seat cover. Color is good but there are 3 big puckers along the edge of the seam. I'm trying to work them out. Not a deal breaker. Very easy to put together -but I do put togehter a lot of diferent furniture. All the piecers and tools were included. directions easy to follow. I always add wood glue to the seams. It is VERY light weight. I guess I was expecting a product that had more weight to it for $50. It feels more like a $25 seat. Basically, it does the job I need it to do. It basically has the right style & color.
