## Description

Hydroxycobalamin is a precursor form of vitamin B12 converted in the body to both methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin. It is similar to cyanocobalamin without the cyanide moiety. Adenosylcobalamin is an activated form similar to methylcobalamin. While methylcobalamin is found in the cytosol of cells and predominates in blood and other fluids, adenosylcobalamin is the major form of vitamin B12 stored in the mitochondria of cellular tissues. It is a key cofactor in carbohydrate metabolism for the enzyme methylmalonyl-CoA mutase used to produce succinyl-CoA. Optimal levels also support healthy synthesis of neuronal myelin.

But I figured that if my doctor likes the levels even higher, it might make sense to add some additional forms of B-12. Therefore, I picked this product. And of course, Pure Encapsulations is a good brand with no fillers or stearates. I see some people with corn allergies have a problem with this product. I don’t, so it’s fine for me. The capsule is nice and small, easy to swallow. And my blood B-12 levels are now actually considered elevated, higher than normal. So, I know it is working. The first time I took one, when I peed an hour later, it was extra dark. I don’t think it meant anything, other than probably I’m getting more B-12 than I can use.
Review: Amazing Supplement - This is much better than methylated b complex vitamins for my homozygous MTHFR, MTRR, and MTR methylation detox cycle gene defects, specifically because I have a heterozygous COMT gene mutation. It allows my body to decide how much B12 it wants to convert into active forms and where. Methylated vitamins don't allow this, and it's why I also take folinic acid (not to be confused with folic acid). I also have a homozygous folate transporter gene mutation, meaning not enough is getting to my brain. Methylated vitamins are also only one final form of these vitamins. With multiple gene mutations, and a strict diet from MCAS and more, I have to take this stuff. It's made a HUGE improvement on my mental and physical health.
