I would think it would let you smooth your curls if this is what you want to do. You only need a small amount to finger style. **Q: Can you wash this only with water or do you need to use shampoo?** A: Water is fine. **Q: whats the difference between fibre and forming ?** A: Fiber is a oil based semi-stiff clay and forming cream is an oil based light cream. **Q: What crew product would you recommend for thick hair but receding hairline?** A: I'd suggest the forming cream which is a medium hold and shine. I have just bought the grooming cream (to try) which is a high hold and shine but I don't find it any stronger. Plus if you're receding, the high shine will polish your head and make it shine like a beacon. When you put it on, it might look a little greasy. Like me, you might think "oh god it looks like I've just dunked my head in a deep-fat fryer"... But... Either wait a little while for the water to evaporate, OR, try messing up your hair with a towel. This will give it texture, separate the strands, and remove excess. Then re-style. You'll find your hair sits really well and doesn't look like it has too much product. American Crew styling products are all very good. They really know their stuff. This one is probably the best one, alongside the blue fibre. It's great for thinning hair because it seems to make the hair thicker - probably through a coating polymer. The one thing I would prefer is that it could be a firmer hold.
