It works as extra storage and closes the gap in between the seat and the console which is really nice for my boyfriend who always accidentally drops stuff through there. For both my cars I've put this in, it fits fairly secure in the gap but has slid out on rare occasions, would recommend putting something grippy on the insert to held it stay in place more securely.
