I've used similar devices on Motorola GP300 radios decades ago, so I know the concept is sound.Well, it turns out that they work and power up the radio, but if you try and transmit... the radio resets... the electronics cannot handle the current the radio (5W) need to transmit.What's the point otherwise? Inside is a power regulator at around 8V.
