How thick is the material?** A: It's knit fabric to skin. I would say about 1/4". **Q: is it washable?** A: It's 26% wool. Label says hand wash, dry flat. I put it in the machine on delicate and flat dry. This is not entirely wool, a combination and I found it can be itchy and if you aren't wearing leggings, it can be a tad bit see-through depending on the light situation, but solved with a either full body slip or a really thin upper liner and lower slip (which is great anyway in Minnesota). I bought a medium and for reference, I'm 5'9" tall it hits my thighs like the model.
