The plastic-handled versions all have rather flimsy bristles that don't have the 'purchase' to get the grime out from under your nails, especially the long nails on my guitar-picking hand.These brushes are just like the ones I remember from yesteryear; they're chunky, sturdy and with bristles stiff enough for the job. The wooden handles might not be as durable as the plastic versions, but it's most likely to be the bristles that wear out long before the wood gets anywhere near an unusable or unsightly state.Can't argue about the price for four of these. Almost giving them away.Want clean nails? Buy these.UPDATE 8 JULY 2015:OK, the surface of the wood tends to get a bit crappy-looking after a few months of use (a grey-black kind of mould-staining I think), but improves slightly if soaked overnight in a bleach solution. The performance of the bristles is still top-notch though so they're still the best nail brushes that I've found.I have two in use in the bathroom and kitchen, have given one to my girlfriend (also happy) and I keep one in the kitchen drawer for scrubbing potatoes (that one is hasn't become discoloured because it isn't used as often and therefore dries out properly each time).Have ordered four more in case they become unavailable, but have reduced my 5* evaluation to 4* due to the staining problem.. ### ⭐⭐ Is it just me? *by M***L on Reviewed in the United Kingdom πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ on 23 December 2013* We received these brushes a few days ago and immediately put one to use in our bathroom, using plain water with no soaps or cleaners.Later, I noticed an unusual smell that I quickly traced to the brush. It was rather pungent smell close up, something like a solvent. Thinking back to school days, was it formaldehyde that smelt like that?A simple test with another brush showed that the wood and the bristles when separately wetted, were not the source,Only when the whole brush got wet, did it smell - an adhesive for the bristles, perhaps?I looked at the product reviews and was surprised to find no mention of an odour.Hmm. Is it just me, then? Over-sensitive nose?Does the smell go away after a few uses with soaps?Is this brush a one-off so that other buyers are just not experiencing it?I contacted the seller - Concept4U - and asked for a comment.I got an immediate response ignoring my request but quoting the Terms of Sales and saying that if I returned them (which I hadn't mentioned at all) they would deduct 50% (on a Β£2.70 purchase).At the price of the brushes, I'm really not concerned about the money but I *am* curious about the smell.And perhaps just a bit uneasy. I've worked with some nasty chemicals over the years and get the distinct feeling that this isn't one you want to mess with.If it's just a residual odour from an adhesive, it's probably not a problem.
