Kind of like a hospital? I have used it several times and have the glass jug, so its not that.** A: No, I haven't noticed any strange taste at all. The water from my distiller tastes of nothing at all. Did you run it at least once without drinking the water, as per the instructions? Have you inserted the charcoal filter sachet in the spout properly, so the water drains through it into the jug? Some potential for something making the water taste strange from a brand new first use due to manufacture residues is possible and without the charcoal filter I have read that some people say the water produced can taste slightly odd. The activated charcoal is the last filter stage and does remove a few things that manage to pass over in the distillation process, so it is worth making sure it is in place and replaced regularly, every few weeks. I would also recommend using a fairly inexpensive TDS water quality tester to check that the water being produced is pure - see the end of my review for this product for details.As Ron has mentioned in his answer, I also never let the distiller boil totally dry, using a timer to remind to stop it just a few minutes before it would turn itself off (2 hours 40 minutes, with warm water fill to the line). This makes cleaning easier. After every use I add a few spoonfuls of white vinegar to what water is left, a quick swirl around to contact the sides, some soaking time and a microfibre cloth, to keep it like new inside, rinsing out the water and vinegar before refilling for the next time. I hope that helps. **Q: I Also would like to know the electricity consumption as this is vital info for me in deciding which product to buy.** A: Hi Natalia - based on my current tariff of 0.11p pkh the electricity cost is 27p per run. **Q: The units internal base is easy to clean with the crystals but I am getting much buildup around the whole inner sides. What product to clean?** A: I use vinegar, and if it's really bad I use a home-made paste of vinegar and sodium bicarbonate on a hot, wet toothbrush or cloth and rub it gently. I also use a timer to switch it off before it boils dry, leaving about an inch of water in the bottom which I throw away and then rinse out and dry with kitchen roll to reduce the build up. **Q: Where can you buy a new glass jug for this item as mine got broken?** A: You can purchase from us (Viafosa).
