We just could not make the leap to purchase a prefabricated rod holder - just too expensive. So this kit, a PVC pipe, some flat black paint and we were set! It makes a great, really sharp looking fly rod carrier. In fact it looks so cool my husband hasn't taken it off the top of the SUV several months after our trip. I'm not complaining because it makes it easier to find the vehicle in the parking lot. It's a great conversation piece too - we get a lot of "what IS that" questions...! Couldn't be happier with the ease of putting it together and the durability. You can lock it which is important. It's stable and not noisy at all.
