I can say with confidence that this Wordsworth publication is the best basic collection for a few reasons It is inexpensive and printed on decent enough quality paper; It has a good introduction and notes from Bruce Woodcock, who also gives very helpful introductions throughout. There is a substantial selection of poetry, including Poetical Sketches, Songs of Innocence and Experience, Marriage of Heaven and Hell [mostly prose but usually included in selections] and a great selection of poems from Blake’s Notebook e.g. from 1793, ‘Never seek to tell thy love’, ‘To my myrtle’ and many others and from part 2 1801-3, ‘ Mock on, Mock on’, ‘ My spectre around me night and day’ and others. There are also some of the very short jottings and fragments from part 3. And poems from The Pickering ms like ‘The Mental Traveller,’’ The Crystal Cabinet’. Then to the more adventurous ‘prophetic’ works and good selections from Milton, Jerusalem and the others with several of the shorter works complete.
