This is made from organic cotton the label states. It feels more like a blend - similar to a sweatshirt. It is soft, but not as soft as some of the newer polyester fabrics. I personally believe a baby should have organic to decrease any skin rashes from allergies. My thought about hang to dry/no dryer may be due to fading and shrinking. But, if that were the case, the fabric should have been preshrunk. I know when my son was little I wanted the convenience of washer/dryer items.
