The first one lasted about 6 months then quit working. Thought maybe I just received a defective unit so a bought another one to replace it. This one lasted just over a month then died. Trash. The stir-bar magnet is indeed very strong, although it makes just about as much noise as most other stir plates in the end -- just slightly different types of noise. If you think about this as a short-term-use disposable item or eventual 'spare parts' box that's gonna last a month or two, you'll be good.Also, just because the item title says 'hot plate' doesn't mean you should expect a stirrer that can make its plate hot.
