Review: Didn't buy this to open it up this year, so I cannot tell you about taste. If SHTF then protein is going to be the most difficult and important food element here. Unless I can catch the deer that keeps stripping the leaves from the sweet potatoes. If you want a stockpile that is still good when you need it you have options. 1) Live on your stockpile and rotate stock religiously. You can learn a lot about the validity of your plan by eating out of the stockpile. But if you want set and forget...or bury remotely, then this is tiresome. 2) Production. The Harvest Right is real, and the cheap way if you are stocking for a community rather than a couple. But if I spend north of 3 grand for a new toy, it better be able to carry firewood in the back. 3) That leaves canned freeze dried like Nutristore. It is expensive, yes. But consider the value equation. It will be there. For 25 or more years, safe from pests, fallout, oxygen, Hurricane Agnes Flooding, Hugo's infrastructure demolition, neglect, freezes, stacking, transit, and smaller fires and quakes. Where do you want your protein when the power goes out for the second two weeks in a month (my father, Port St Lucy FL.) Or 6 weeks (Quebec, 2/1998) or whenever. Didn't buy this to open it up this year, so I cannot tell you about taste. If SHTF then protein is going to be the most difficult and important food element here. Unless I can catch the deer that keeps stripping the leaves from the sweet potatoes.
