Review: Excellent product and VFM - Excellent product from good manufacturer and amazing value for money. I assembled alone and took me about 5 hours. Says it needs two people but can be done alone. All the parts are set out clearly and assembly is logical but you have to carefully follow the directions. When fully built I had a few small things wrong - the cables took me a couple of efforts but soon fixed things. I cracked one of the smoked plastic vertical screens as they are bit thin and vulnerable. However overall brilliant, does lots of different things and fairly stable on garage floor (I have backed against the wall for safety).
Review: Unstable - There are some things which bother me about this multi-gym. Mainly it is to do with stability. I have it on carpet and it rocks about in use. The base doesn't really spread the load very well and the centre of gravity is too far back towards the weight stack. When I use the bar attached to the chain at floor level, the whole gym lifts up off the ground and tilts backwards. The rubber ball attached to the chain also scrapes the leg curl aparatus. I have found the preacher curl pretty pointless. The butterfly curl started creaking after only a few uses. When I do the lateral pull-down, my elbows bash into the chest push bars. Overall, it just seems poorly designed for ease of use. It took ages to assemble the multigym, which is probably quite normal for flat-pack gyms. It's not easy if you struggle to follow complex diagrams, although all the parts are numbered for simplicity. The quality is okay, but nothing special. There was one bracket which was completely misaligned which I had to knock into position with a rubber mallet. While I got what I paid for, I was a little bit disappointed.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this good for somebody roughly 6 foot or would i bigger model be better?**
A: I stand at 6 foot 2 and it's perfect. This machine is amazing.

**Q: Does the York multi gym come with an exercise chart?**
A: Yes it does.

**Q: Hi, it says the height is 196cm. Does it require any further height above it?**
A: You'd probably need a one or two cm more than that to get comfortable clearance. Mine is exactly 1961mm from floor to the top of the highest pulley.

**Q: What leg exercises can be done? Just leg extension and standing leg curl?**
A: I manage to do squats holding bar at arms length by thighs
Also you can use ankle straps for side leg lifts too

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ York multigym - a buyer's guide?
*by A***R on 1 April 2021*

I purchased this model on the grounds of good/very good reviews on several websites, and its relatively compact dimensions, particularly height (196cm). The assembled product allows a good range of exercises to be performed, and a 100kg weight stack should be more than enough for most users. If you can manage to build flatpack furniture, you can assemble this machine. The process is broken down into a number of steps, each one having well packaged and generally clearly labelled parts. If in doubt, refer to the detailed listing in the instructions booklet, as there was a small number of misprints. The cabling instructions could be clearer - this was the only particularly tricky part. I would recommend a second person to help, if only to get bolts etc out of the packaging, which was tedious! Tools are included but ratchet spanners (17mm and 19mm) or a socket set will save a lot of time tightening the 40 or so nuts. Once assembled, the seat is in a fixed position. Consequently users might find the positioning a little strange at first, if used to free weights. Likewise, the weights may not move as far as you’d expect for some exercises on account of the limited rise of the weight stack. Be prepared to remove foam covers to allow easier use of the gym - for example from the leg extension set up, to access the seat more comfortably for upper body exercises. Weight increments are 5kg. A pity there is not a smaller increment provided, e.g. detachable 1 or 2.5kg blocks. Safety: Read the documentation, but also note the main stabilisers have small plates which you need to put your feet on when working at the front of the multi gym. It will topple backwards on a deadlift, and some other exercises if you don’t, as I found out! (It probably wouldn’t go over, but could be a scary experience.) It was disappointing that the accompanying pictorial exercise guide shows a different machine in use. This wouldn’t phase anyone who’s used multi gyms in the past, but isn’t helpful for novice users. You can carry out more exercises on the multigym than the pictures suggest. If set up somewhere likely to get very humid (poorly ventilated shed, for example), watch out for signs of corrosion - WD40, or similar, is an easy fix. Overall, I’m very pleased with the product and the negative points highlighted above are relatively minor.
