## Overview

The HumusziegelLight Potting Soil is a pack of 10 eco-friendly coconut coir bricks, each weighing 650 grams. When hydrated, these bricks expand to yield approximately 9 liters of high-quality potting soil, perfect for sowing and cultivating a variety of plants. This peat-free substrate offers excellent water retention and root ventilation, making it suitable for both common and exotic plants.

## Description

90 L coconut fibre substrate/potting soil. Mix your own flower/potting soil with up to 50% coconut fibre. Take a good potting soil as your basis and add the swollen coconut soil to create an airy, light, water-retaining plant substrate. - The quick and convenient way to mix your own planting substrate. Made from the fibres of the coconut shell, a renewable resource. Coconut humus is used as a substitute for peat. - Made from 100% short fibres: fine substrate. Light and fine coconut soil in a pressed brick. Coconut soil is made from the fibres of the coconut shell. Once swollen with water, you will get a light coconut fibre substrate with a stable structure. The substrate doesn’t harden when watered, as it does with conventional potting soil. - This enables more oxygen to reach the roots and lets you achieve better root ventilation. The warmer the water used, the more volume created. Ideally suited for the cultivation of herbs, vegetables, ornamental plants, exotics and for soil improvement and aeration. - Good for sowing/cultivation and as a top coat. Does not encourage mould, even when seeds have longer germination periods, for instance palm trees/exotics. Loosens the soil and enables good root aeration, and strong growth for your plants. - Free from harmful substances. Unfertilised. Peat-free. As well as for use as potting soil, our coir blocks are also suitable for use in terrariums. The environmentally sound alternative to peat. -

Review: Useful for almost any planting needs; can be mixed to an excellent soil substitute - Similar but not identical to others previously purchased. Makes an ideal potting medium and saves needing to use peat which is now heavily regulated. Coir discourages many soil pests and plant diseases. The individually wrapped bricks can be stored for long periods if kept dry but may later need slightly more water to rehydrate. The advantage of the bricks is that you only need rehydrate as many as are currently needed rather than store large bags or bins of pre-prepared material, ideal for small-scale users. Coir is ideal for seeding, planting out plugs or replanting more established plants to condition the soil from the hole and help fill it. It can also be dug into heavy, clay-based soils to improve condition and drainage for better rooting. When mixed with well-composted material and vermiculite or broken shell etc using recommended proportions offered elsewhere it becomes an excellent soil substitute. These bricks come with realistic instructions (although in German) that suggest using about 4 litres of fairly hot water, not boiling but beyond lukewarm, for most effective and fast re-hydration. A heavy-duty poly bag is currently used for preparation and initially contained within a bucket to constrain it, prevent water spillage and fibre loss; a 12-15 litre bucket will also work for one brick. Personal suggestion is to initially use slightly less water and only add more if light-coloured portions remain visible; when fully hydrated the fibre should be dark brown to black. Sometimes, a brick needs 'assistance' to break apart (using a trowel or metal dibber) to ensure complete hydration. The mixture should be allowed to completely cool over several hours before use.
Review: Price and quality - You cannot go wrong - I followed the instructions of ONLY adding 4 litres of water per block, and its just enough to be absorbed (I cheated and used hot water which absorbes faster). I've added the expanded coir to all my pots plants and used it all over the garden and the results are really looking good. I can recommend this product for the price and quality

## Features

- Pack of 10 (650 grams each) fine coir soil, pressed, the practical alternative to heavy compost bags. Peat-free and unfertilised. Simply add 4 litres of water and the brick swells to produce approx. 9 litres of potting soil. The warmer the water, the more volume created.
- Fine coconut fibre soil replacement for sowing, cultivating and for mixing your own potting soil substrate.
- Very good water storage capacity, loosens the soil and therefore enables good root ventilation.
- For sowing, cultivating and making your own compost mixtures.
- Mould inhibiting swelling soil, therefore also suitable for the sowing of exotic plants, without any additives.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good Coya Compost.
*by A***R on 28 April 2020*

A decent product. A single large block would be easier to re-hydrate than several smaller ones though. Not the most economical growing medium, but good for people growing things indoors who want some thing clean and not so messy.
