Read and re-read the reviews (which I realize now must have been written by seven year-olds.) I decided to order it b/c I've been wanting a nice leather journal that looks really old and cool and, well, expensive. This journal arrived in the mail today and two words came to mind to describe it: "rinky-dink." It looks like something you'd get at Disney World or maybe Epcot at the "Native American" gift shop. Aside from the fact that it looks cheap, it smells awful. The "leather" (that must have come from some cheap Euro-trash cows) has been treated with some dreadfully disgusting chemical that makes my dog wanna pee on it. I actually feel sorry for this journal- it's so pathetic. I'm not a leather expert but why does some leather feel dry and cold while some feels "fuzzy" almost? Well this feels like the fuzzy velvety (suede?) kind and that's not what I was expecting. This book definitely does not look old or cool and certainly does not look expensive. It doesn't look handmade and therefore unique but instead looks mass-produced. It would be appropriate for kids who want to have a journal to take to summer camp. I don't think anyone serious about journaling would want to use this. It's just too difficult to take this book seriously. It's cute but not dazzling.
