The trick to crushing without putting holes through the cups is to 'crush' WITH JUST ENOUGH FORCE to break them into smaller pieces. Then you gently 'pound' them to a fine powder. When I am crushing several meds at once, I pick the souffle cups up, and lifting the top one ONLY SLIGHTLY, I give the contents a gentle shake. This allows the broken up pills to mix and makes them crush more consistently. Just rememeber - for best performance - always follow the directions. This may take some experimenting and you may have to crush some pills by themselves if they need a lot of pressure so you don't re-compact the softer ones. Also, I do not recommend crushing a huge quantity at a time. I would recommend this to anyone who has to crush lots of medications. It crushes pills really well. I have to take my Iron and other meds crushed to a powder form. It works marvelously. Not sure what beaded medication looks like. I have never tried to crush a capsule with its medicine inside. All my pills are solid, some are coated, and I have to crush them all to smitherines. It does that, and is very sturdy. I use it crush huge vitamin pills, and that does require an ability to lift the handle and smash it down several times. **Q: will this thing take a 5/8" diameter pill?** A: I had no problem with crushing pills as long as the pills were not too hard.
