After tests, my dog was prescribed this medication for his liver problems. But how do you feed pills to a dog that won’t eat anything, not even his treats or cheese? Well, the vet opened a can of pate’ CAT FOOD and surprisingly my dog ate it! The vet said cat food is normally too fatty to be healthy for dogs but they’ll eat it -even when they won’t eat anything else-because it’s like a super-juicy hamburger to them! The vet suggested putting the pill in a small ball of canned pate’ cat food, especially if your dog has no appetite. First, give a tiny ball of pate’ without a pill so they anticipate the flavor then give them a ball with the pill hidden in it while showing them there is more- tricking them into gulping down the pill-ball. I know it sounds crazy but I watched a vet on youtube show how and it worked. The first little bit programs them for the larger piece which only covers the pill...they wolf it right down. I know it is working because the 22lbs. liver was so high it wouldn't even register on the scale. Follow up last week the liver blood work showed a dramatic drop to well below 300. I thought that that was just what Chihuahuas do. I ended up taking him to the vet and she was amazing and ended up running bloodwork and finding a liver issue.
