The reason they probably worked (in my view) is as follows: I was getting a heel blister possibly because a prominence on my heel meant that all the friction required to lift the shoe heel off the ground at each step was concentarted locally on the prominence and therefore focused too much of the shear force between my outer skin and subcutaneous area, leading to a breakdown of fascia and consequent blister. I use them on my running shoes and they come off without leaving residue. Not sure the fabric behind your dress shoes but should do the job. I had a pair of nice shoes that would constantly rub when they were new. Was dubious that these would work, but they eliminated the pain straight away, were easy to fit and stay in place well.
