I bought myself a PS4 (PlayStation 4) with 3 games, and then I realised I don't have a HDTV - yes, I don't have a HDTV, but I already know that this console can only be played in HD. I thought to myself what can be done about playing my PS4 on my standard TV, so I searched the net, and that's when I came across this. This little white box converts a HDMI signal to a AV signal - that yellow, red, and white cable that is used for scarts. How does it work? I have no idea, I'm not an expert, but it does convert the signal. I read the reviews about this, some people said it didn't work and some people said it did work. I watched a video proof of a guy using this, so I decided to buy it myself. It came yesterday, and then I realised something was missing. I needed a double AV cable to connect the box up to my TV. I found one and I bought it. The cable came today, and I just tested it a few minutes ago before I wrote this review.The moment of truth, does it work? Yes it does bloody works despite a few people saying it doesn't work, something must be wrong with their TV. It's not perfect, that's why I didn't give it a 5 star rating. Here's how it works. There's 3 sockets on the box, one for HDMI, one for AV, and a USB. What you do is insert the HDMI into the console and into the box. Next, insert the double AV cable into the TV and into the 3 sockets on the box. Finally, the USB that comes supplied with it just needs to be inserted in the USB socket on the front of my PS4. A few people said that it needs to be inserted into something else, but no, it simply inserts in a ordinary USB socket to make it work, I guess some people are wrong with what they said about this.One thing I don't understand is the box has a switch for PAL and NTSC. If switched to PAL, the picture is black and white with no sound. If switched to NTSC, the picture is colour with sound. I'm from UK, and I have to use the NTSC format for my TV, and I don't understand why - is my TV NTSC? I don't know, I guess it doesn't matter, as long as it still works. As for the picture, it's not perfect. It may look jagged, but the picture still can be seen. The sound is alright, there is a little bit of fuzziness comes through, but the sounds still can be heard.This can be used for the meantime while people are waiting to get a HDTV. This can also be used for people who can't afford a HDTV, and still want to be play their PS4 or Xbox One on a standard TV. This white box is good, it may save lives for different reasons, but it might not work for everybody. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent output quality from my Blu-ray player *by R***N on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 24 January 2014* I wanted to play Bluray disks but my DVD player couldn't do this (obviously). But as my TV didn't have an HDMI input I either had to buy a (bedroom) TV that did or find a gizmo that converted HDMI from my Bluray to composite video, which my TV did understand.I tested it first using my digibox (that normally connects via a SCART lead but has an HDMI output too) and confirmed that the quality was acceptable and that audio, as well as video, was coming through loud and clear. I had to buy an HDMI cable  AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cable 3 Feet / 0.9 m Supports Ethernet / 3D / Audio Return (Newest Standard)  to do this but as cables are no longer included in any home cinema device I knew I had to do this anyway.Testing complete I bought a new, simple Bluray player  LG 3D Slim Smart BP325 Blu-ray Player - Black  from Amazon and wow! it didn't just work, it exceeded my expectations.What's to like?---------------It powered up without using the (supplied) UDB cable which meant less cables.There's nothing to configure. It takes all formats of high definition HDMI in, and spits out much lower definition composite video. I tried 576i, 720p, 1080i and 1080p (the latter two when my Bluray arrived).The quality of the composite on my TV is better than the SCART input from my digibox, so I am well impressed (not to say tempted as to what a modern, new TV with HDMI inputs would give me!)It just works.What could be better?---------------------There is no 'on' LED on the device but if you're getting a deep blue picture on your TV (even without an input connected to this device) it's working.Conclusion----------Saved me buying a new small, bedroom TV for the odd hour at night. The lowest resolution output by the XBMC player is 720p and it only outputs via HDMI.I had also bought a VGA converter; but whilst this worked fine on a monitor, my TV constantly was switching resolution modes so was un-watchable.I did not have the same problem with the composite converter because it down-scales to standard definition. I needed to connect the supplied USB cable between a USB output of the Media player to provide extra juice to the converter, this stopped any flickering; and set it to NTSC 60; and at that point I got a rock solid picture.The composite adapter works well for me.It looks as though some of the negative reviews are from people who were trying to use the converter as composite to HDMI.
