I have been using henna for the last 6 months or so as my scalp was suffering and my hair too from peroxide and box dyes. I have used various brands of henna from light mountain (my usual go to) to the more pricier ones like henna sooq (which I did not like) I was a bit worried about using this brand, i'd never heard of them before but have used their neutral henna (cassia) in the past and was pleased with that product so thought I'd give the henna a try and for the price initially. I also read the reviews about the henna and decided to try it and wow am I glad I did. I mixed it with a little hibiscus powder and aloe powder, lemon juice, apple juice from a carton and a small amount of warm distilled water. I left it covered overnight in a cool room for approx 12-14 hours to dye release. This is a very important step and a science in itself. I tested a blob on my palm and left for a minute and it wasnt quite ready. I tested it again about an hour later and it was a very strong colour stain left after only being on the skin for a minute, i knew it was ready. The henna powder itself is very fine and easy to mix, no grit and very easy to rinse out of my hair. I found with other hennas it was sticky and hard to wash the grit out resulting in residue being left on the hair and scalp and also an itchy scalp. Not with this henna!!! I dont shampoo after using henna just a bit of conditioner to stop the hair drying as my hair can feel dry after using henna. Thats just the henna getting into the cuticles of the hair and this smooths out after conditioning. The colour is beautiful im still in awe of it and get so many compliments. My hair is shiny and thick and nonitcy scalp. The smell is not too bad, its henna it smells like henna what can i say. The first photo uploaded is the day I dyed it in natural daylight it's a bright orange red and tbh I wish it would stay this colour but henna darkens as it oxidises. The middle photo is 2 weeks later in direct sunlight and the one with part of my face is also 2 weeks later in direct sunlight. Indoors it looks a little darker and redder but in the sun its the most amazing fiery red orange. I only wash my hair a couple of times a week and if I leave conditioner in my hair there is still some colour run when rinsing but not much. I will definitely be reordering. Hmmm, henna and black hair... It depends what you mean by “work”. Henna is a natural conditioner and a dye. Using it a conditioner, henna should make your hair soft and shiny, regardless of your natural hair colour. Using it as a dye, henna is most effective on light coloured hair, it will turn blonde or grey hair an orange-red shade. To be honest, if your hair is pure black or dark brown, using henna as a dye may create a warm red shine, but it’s unlikely to colour it a noticeable vivid orange-red. If you have grey hairs in amongst the black, henna can dye these individual hairs so they look like fine copper wire, and the rest of your hair will stay black. Whatever you do, be careful. As a dye, henna is semi-permanent, it takes a long time to either fade or wash out. This was half the price and easy to use without the gritty feeling my usual brand gives.
