My toilets were filling slowly, and simply replacing the flappers no longer stopped the flush valve leaks, so it was time to replace all of the toilet tank's innards. A leaking flush valve causes water to leak from the tank into the bowl between flushes, which then causes the fill valve to replenish the lost water periodically, which wastes a considerable amount of water. Installation is normally simple, except that my Sterling brand toilets have 3 bolts holding the tank to the toilet as well as an integrated bolt and gasket arrangement between the tank and bowl. In my case, I had to re-use the existing bolts as well as the existing rubber gasket. For "normal" toilets, you use the 2 bolts, washers and gasket in this kit when replacing the flush valve and re-attaching the tank to the bowl. Replacing the fill valve with the one in this kit is simple and takes just a couple of minutes, and can usually be done with no tools. This identical kit in HD has only two. This picture shows 3.** A: Only 2 brass bolts but the kit comes with extra rubber washers for toilets that have 3 bolts. The instruction said you would have to reuse one of your old ones for the 3rd brass bolt. I have mansfield toilet, which is 3 bolts. I didn't use the brass bolts provided in this kit.
