Yes, it will cut you. If you do not use the safety holder and are not careful you will get cut. Cut resistant gloves are a great way to protect the fingers.2. When you are slicing something you should ideally be holding the mandolin by the handle perpendicular (facing away) from you and slicing away from your body. This allows you push the item through the blade. If you still notice that the cut is starting to angle rotate the holder 180 degrees and cut. Although there are many videos of people slicing from the side, that is wrong. Cutting from the side will undoubtedly put more pressure on the palm side of your hand.3. The safety holder has 2 raised plastic edges that guide it along the sides of the mandolin once it gets down that far. The trick to help guide things until then is to hold whatever you are slicing to the outer edge where the controls are located and slide down to the blade. Because the blade is angled whatever you slice will want to also slide across the blade to the other side of the mandolin as it cuts. This creates a backwards Z pattern more or less.I don't mean to knock the previous reviews and I am sure they were left with good intentions. I just found them a little misleading. Like any type of culinary device a mandolin requires a little knowledge and some practice. I find this slicer to be well constructed. Nothing seems flimsy or loose and when slicing it is very sturdy. Both ends of the slicing bed can be opened. The top for raising and lowering the julienne blades and the bottom for switching to the wavy blade. To switch to the wavy blade you simply grab the little tab of the lower bed and lift it up, push in and turn the bottom knob until it locks into place and then lower bed back down until it snaps into place. Changing the cutting thickness or raising/lower julienne blades is done by pushing in on the blade adjustment knob and rotating. You will notice that on the side of the adjustment knob there are many little hash marks on the slicing side. Each one of these indicates an indent that can be felt when turning the knob that offers up to 10 thickness settings. Once the julienne blades have been deployed you will need to raise the upper bed to lower them again. This is done by pushing on the end of the upper bed by the handle. The bed should pivot up so that blades can be lowered. Another good thing about both ends of the bed raising is for easier cleanup. I never recommend any blade being put into the dishwasher. Also for cleanup is the ability to remove the julienne blade setup. Turn the thickness adjustment knob until the word out lines up with the little mark and you can pull out the entire adjustment knob. The blade appears to be fixed and non-removable. It does come with a plastic safety guard on it which I kept for reuse during storage.The safety holder has 6 pins in the center as well as more plastic pins along 2 sides of the holder in two recessed notches for long vegetables. It also has 2 raised plastic edges that are used to guide the holder along the sides of the mandolin. I have seen other manufacturers that only have 3 or 4 pins and no recesses for long vegetables. The opening for the vegetable to fit up into is nice and large and should accommodate up to a very large potato or squash. The holder is also made of a good thickness and is not easily bent.I hope you find this review helpful. I can say without a doubt that this mandolin is better than the last 4 I have had. The fact that all of the blades are incorporated into the unit requires much less storage space is a bonus. Like any item though it does have some limitations. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Wrong online manual for this product. *by W***R on Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2018* This slicer is very well made. The problem I have is the paperless manual. I went online and read the instructions over and over. No diagrams. I could not figure out the cleaning instructions. It was not working for me. Then I took another look at the slicer online. It is not the same slicer I received from Amazon. The online photo has only one knob. Mine is the photo on Amazon with 2 knobs. But the instructions do not fit the slicer. For $10.00 it's not worth sending back. I'll just have to figure it out.Figured it out. The knob and the blades come out together. DUH ! ### ⭐⭐ Disappointed *by T***K on Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2017* I'm disappointed in this product. I've been wanting to get a mandoline for a while now, and after using it for the first time, it just didn't meet my expectations. It seems cheaply made. I was making waffle fries and French fries to test it out, it has a hard time cutting evenly. It came with "online instructions" but the online instructions and no instructions on how to switch in the waffle blade--after pressing a few buttons, pulling on things, I finally figured it out.
