I have the actual container put together but don't understand how the layers work.** A: The bottom part with spigot serves for collecting the "composting product" = worm tea. This liquid must be blended with water in ratio of 1 part of worm tea : 2-3 parts of water and then you can use it for watering plants.The composting process is running in the tray with the holes - the organic matters are converted into compost by the worms.One tray is used in the beginning - then as soon as this one is filled another tray is added. Leftovers are placed in the second one and the worms move into this second one as well.Let us know if you need additional help!Thank you,Plastia **Q: Is this for indoor use only? Does it give off a lot of odor?** A: This farm is designed for indoor use. I use it indoors in my kitchen with no mat underneath and no problem at all. My worms do not escape, and properly maintained worm farms don't have that problem.( google worm farm escape) It does not smell bad, there is a small " foresty' smell when its opened but I find it pleasant. There are a few fruit flies but they are mostly contained. When I overwatered it got a little smelly, but it dissipated fast. Most worm farms are not designed for extremes of heat or cold, (they like 50-80F )so they have be indoors . **Q: How many layers of worm baskets does this come with? The product illustration shows one on the green and two on the gray one. Which is correct?** A: The vermicomposter/worm farm comes with two trays. The second tray isn't used initially and the process is well explained in the directions. As for planter, can't say. Really not worth the money unfortunately. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Quite useful but design could be improved for the worms *by S***S on 25 February 2022* Had this worm farm for 4 months and so I’ve been using it for a while now and the worms are still alive! However, the gaps between the levels and the lid at large enough for worms to escape and they do. So be prepared to find dead and dried up worms in your area. It progressively got more wet and stinky which was difficult to elevate, we tried cardboard but it became so sodden that it began to stink. You need to turn the compost over regularly and harvest the worm tea. We also found dead worms in the sump where the worm tea collects as they drown in it. I had to move it from the kitchen in the end and the only way to dry it out was to put it outside with the lid off to let it dry. Not quite as straightforward as it seems but we will persevere and experiment to get the moisture right.
