For WiFi capability, you must add one or more WiFi access points which are normally connected to this Dream Machine SE using network cables. This box can perform many different functions. It can be used as a console, a firewall, a router, a small POE switch, a host for multiple VLANs, network storage, and even a network video recorder for (only) Ubiquiti branded cameras. Regarding the extra switch, you would only need it if you require more wired connections than the remaining unused LAN ports on this box. Of the 8 ports, you might have 5 left unused for connecting client machines. If you have added an access point for WiFi, you could just connect everything else in your home via WiFi to avoid having an extra switch.
