Seems like at least 30% of them fail within a year or two so decided to spend the extra $20 or so on this shade. So far it does not disappoint. Yes, the price is a little more but considering the budget shades at big box stores are not that much cheaper, are flimsier and often fail, I think this product is worth the extra cost. It was easy to install and easy to adjust and we like the auto-up/stop feature. I can't really comment how much it really darkens the room since it's not in our bedroom but it does appear to block the light really well in our bathroom. Hopefully it gives us many years of good performance. The fabric is thick, durable, and completely cuts out UV rays and direct sunlight. The cordless spring mechanism is very quiet and safe for my home. Installation was straightforward, but make sure to measure precisely! The actual fabric is about an inch narrower than the overall valance width to allow room for the hardware, which can let a tiny sliver of light peek through the very edges if you do an inside mount.
