Hope it the above can help you **Q: Does it come with a informal brochure that explains how to read it?** A: There is a small double-sided paper that tells you the history/origin of the stormglass (contains grammatical errors) and 5 or so diagrams of the crystal formations and what they signify but they’re not all that helpful. My suggestion is to monitor it every couple of days when the weather changes, record the types of formations observed, and develop your own correlations between those formations and the weather. I am a person who loves unique things. I am always on the lookout for things that others may not have. So this was a great piece I couldn't pass up. It is so beautiful, it will fit in my decor no matter where I put it. It is great to have a piece that others actually relied on years ago before all of our electronics. So far it has been accurate, but it does say to give it up to a couple of weeks to be sure it is truly acclimated to the environment. So over time we will see, I have it up on a shelf and I can't help myself but to stare or hold it. It is glass though, so you really do have to take a certain amount of care when handling. The tear drop glass shape is so pretty. This item is very fragile. Handle with extreme care. It comes with a wood base to sit on. Make sure to keep it somewhere safe and not near any direct sunlight, air conditioning/heating vents. The storm glass needs a few days to adjust to the climate. Crystal form in certain patterns inside the glass that tell you what to expect from the weather. We've had cold snap here in the south and I was able to see the formation for freeze. We had a few warmer days and it still didn't do anything. Was hoping to see it work similar to a glass barometer, but my kids and I are totally disappointed.
