If you have hanging baskets that dry out quickly, this is the cure. The crystals hold moisture but eventually dry out. May be added to your container dry or wet as you are potting your flowers. I use them for the making cloth tubes for around your neck when it's hot. When not in use, placing in the refrigerator in a ziploc bag with some water creates a cool tube for use later. It's a good product. This is supposed to contain Potassium polyacrylate which is plant safe. A similar 'water gel' Sodium polyacrylate looks and acts the same but is toxic to plants being equivalent to adding table salt to a garden.Polyacrylamide is a similar synthethically produced gel compound with very high hygroscopic properties. In english it's a dry powder that absorbs a lot of water and will release it back as it's surrounding gets dryer. It does not contain either potassium or sodium in the chemical chain.It's used as a commercial soil amendment and can be found in humidity reducing agents and other moisture control products.It's basic composition is an amide which is based on ammonia, and a hydrocarbon.
