This bedspread "breathes" like 100% cotton. I quilt and I know when you use 100% cotton pad there is some shrinkage so you have to wash it in advance which commercial companies don't do which is probably why they put some polyester in the padding to prevent shrinkage so The cover will shrink predictably with the padding inside; that's my theory anyway. I have enjoyed this and it still looks just as new and beautiful as the day I got it .
