The self-righting feature works very well when the boat rolls over. Just hit reverse, hit forward, and hit full throttle and the boat pops right over, even with a heavy 5200 mAh battery in it. The boat has fully proportional throttle control and steering. It has throttle trim adjustment and rudder trim adjustment on the remote control. The result is that you have excellent control over the boat. It also has manually adjustable trim tabs in the back. I bought this for my eight year-old son and with some instruction and help he is able to use it by himself and has a ton of fun with it. It will also keep an adult occupied. For those that are looking and having a hard time finding what extra battery to buy, then here is the scoop. The boat comes stock with a 2500 mAh 3S 11.1v Lipo battery with an XT60 connector. If you are looking for extra batteries, then my testing came to this conclusion. You can fit an Hoovo 5200 mAh 3S 11.1v Lipo in the boat and still wrap the velcro battery strap about the battery. If you use that battery, then the boat will sag to the left in the water and while running it will tend to make a left-hand loop instead of running straight. With the stock battery the runs straighter and is better balanced, but obviously you are going to have about half the running time. On the stock battery, if you are not full throttle the whole time, you will probably get 10 minutes out of it maybe more. What I would recommend for extra batteries is that you get the Hoovo 2200 mAh 3S 11.1v battery and just have more of them on hand for longer playing time. Another thing to note is that battery hatch does not seal perfectly. I solved this by simply coating the stock battery compartment seal with Dielectric grease. After our outing with the stock battery and 5200 mAh battery, which amounted to about 30 minutes or more of playing around, including 3 different rollovers, we had only a drop or two of water in the motor compartment when sealed with Dielectric grease. Overall, I would say that you will not be disappointed with how it comes out of the box and with a couple extra batteries you or your kids can have loads of fun. So far, a 2800 mAh, 11.1V 30C, can be sized correctly for the stock battery tray and works best for all three of my Cheerwings. Anything bigger, like 3000 mAh, 11.1V, 30C will require some "tray modifications" and a "buyer beware" as you may void your warranty if you modify the battery tray. The 3000 mAh series will work when sized to the battery tray correctly. Tray sizes and motors have improved over the years with Cheerwing. Therefor, the connectors have changed over time with improved technology and controlling costs. You will need to visually inspect what the factory supplies you with before you shop for a higher performance battery to see which connectors are attached to the motor and battery. Cross over connectors are a dime a dozen, much like the aftermarket batteries that are available on Amazon. Anything over 3000 mAh will make it difficult for the boat to auto correct itself when it flips over from the speed because the battery is obviously heavier for the boat's designed size and performance. My advice from learning the hard way: Enjoy the boat with the factory settings before you run the snot out of it! That way, you will experience the performance data (overall running speeds, transmitter working distance, and the average battery run time) on it before you wipe it out. Note: secure the top cover (tether it, tape it, or something), or the cover sinks to the bottom of the pond. Dense plastic does not float long!
